The History and Significance of Yakuza Tattoos.

The Yakuza is a notorious organized crime group that has been operating in Japan for centuries.

One of the most distinctive features of Yakuza members is their tattoos, which often cover large portions of their bodies. These tattoos are not just decorative but also hold deep cultural and symbolic significance.

The tradition of Yakuza tattoos, known as Irezumi, dates back to the Edo period (1603-1868). At that time, tattoos were used as a means of punishment, marking criminals so they could be easily identified. As time passed, Yakuza members embraced tattoos as a symbol of their loyalty to the organization and their toughness. Today, Yakuza tattoos are considered an art form, with the most intricate designs taking years to complete.

Stand out with one-of-a-kind tattoos

The process of getting a Yakuza tattoo is a painful and time-consuming one, with many hours spent under the needle. This is because Yakuza tattoos are usually done using the traditional tebori method, which involves using a needle that is poked into the skin by hand. This method results in a more vibrant and expressive tattoo, but it is also much more painful than modern tattooing methods.

Yakuza tattoos are often large and elaborate, covering the entire back, chest, and arms.

The designs often depict imagery from Japanese folklore and mythology, such as dragons, snakes, tigers, and demons. These tattoos symbolize the wearer's power and strength, as well as their connection to the Yakuza culture and traditions.
